It was Gwyneth Paltrow who first marked the return of the killer heel when she stepped out in pair of sky-high stilettos at the Iron Man première earlier this year.

Lily Allen then followed suit, turning heads in Chanel platforms and proudly flying the fetish-shoe flag for Britain.

But now, true to form, Victoria Beckham has upstaged them all.

After being pictured in a pair of Antonio Berardi heel-less PVC boots last week, the fashionista has once again defied gravity, this time on a shopping trip with her sons.

The metallic platforms seemed innocent enough, but on closer inspection, Victoria made making her way through the shopping mall in a pair of dangerously thread-thin stilettos.

Unsurprisingly though, the ultra-skinny Spice Girl, who claims to be unable to concentrate in flat shoes, kept her balance. Perhaps it was the oversized handbag - and holding Cruz's hand -  that helped keep her steady.

And whereas most mums would be content to enter a toy store in a pair of jeans and trainers, the 34-year-old opted for a thigh-skimming bright orange shift dress and sunglasses for the Build-A-Bear workshop with sons Brooklyn, nine; Romeo, six; and Cruz, three.

Clearly unable to walk up any stairs, the fashion designer wisely chose to use the lift instead but appeared to have some trouble fitting in with her large entourage and shopping bags.

Meanwhile, husband David was on the other side of the country playing football with LA Galaxy, who are performing badly this season.

Lilly Allen shocked us all by bleaching her chocolate brown hair peroxide blonde, however since she hit the bottle, lil Lil has been experimenting with some gorgeous new hairstyles. This Grecian updo with curled tendrils was the perfect party style for a night out at the Cannes Film Festival. To recreate this look you will need a slim barrelled curling tong and a fair amount of patience, especially if your hair is thick. Firstly, secure your hair in a high ponytail at the crown.
